Structuring Successful Negotiations
Tuesday, March 20th, 2012
Abstract: Structuring Successful Negotiations
When it comes to negotiating, everyone has a distinct style. But effective negotiators never lose site of the fundamentals. “Structuring Successful Negotiations” focuses on the key stages of a negotiation:
- Analysis
- Determining your BATNA
- Planning the negotiation meeting
- Holding the negotiation meeting
- Negotiation tactics
In addition to helping you determine when to negotiate, this session will provide an overview of how to prepare for a negotiation, recognize negative tactics, and analyze the negotiation. You will learn how to develop BATNA, understand its significance, speculate on the other party’s BATNA, and recognize negotiation personalities for more productive outcome.

The first quarter of 2012 is in full swing. At the time of this writing our February dinner meeting was last night and was pleased to see a strong showing from our members. Some of the key points to replay for those of you not present:
- 4 students from UD and 1 student from WSU made the meeting! Thanks to Dev Nanda for his efforts as the University Outreach lead.
- Our Web Master Alan Dyke communicated how to logon as a member to the Dayton PMI website to receive member pricing when registering for Dayton PMI events. Your logon is the PMI.ORG registered email address for you, your password is your PMI membership number. Once you log on initially you can then change logon and password to something you prefer.
- Dave Babcock our new VP Finance is seeking input on ways to invest some of our cash reserves to assure protection of our non-profit status. Email David at

- Remember that the start of our Spring PMP Prep course is fast approaching. Please encourage any non PMPs you know to check us out.
- Thanks to Betsy, Jason, and the rest of the Communications team for getting our Dayton PMI Face book page up. Still basic but enhancements are on the way. Remember to go out and “like” it.
The Dayton PMI Board and Director’s had a great kickoff meeting in mid January. We used the 2011 end-of-year survey results as an input to our strategic planning for 2012. It was great to see our new team members actively engage, challenge each other, and brainstorm priorities. Cheryl Spillman was appointed to the role of VP Marketing, a role vacant for the past couple years. Please welcome Cheryl and thank her for stepping up.
I look forward to meeting you at upcoming Dayton events. Also encourage you to get out and volunteer – a great way to gain PDUs and help our Chapter achieve our objectives. As always, thanks for your support!
Yours in PM,
Eric Weston
